About Us

The Humane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (The Humane Society) is a Section 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1902 to address animal welfare issues in central South Carolina.  Since its inception, The Humane Society focuses on ending animal cruelty, neglect and abuse.  In the early '80s, The Humane Society began to address animal overpopulation by offering low cost spay/neuter surgeries.

The Humane Society is governed by a Board of Directors made up of community volunteer leaders and operates entirely on private donations and from the revenues generated by our low cost, high quality spay/Neuter Clinic.  The Humane Society receives no public funding.  If you would like to help support the work of The Humane Society, please visit our donations page by clicking the button to the right.

The Humane Society employs a dedicated staff of hardworking professionals bent on achieving our mission to end animal cruelty and overpopulation,  but hard work and dedication, alone, are not enough. The Humane Society needs continued support to bring awareness of the issues we face to the general public and to aid in our capacity to take action against animal overpopulation and incidents of animal abuse and neglect. Only through a cooperative effort, can The Humane Society and the community to which it serves, reach a solution to our region’s animal welfare issues.
